Hiking

When it comes to eco-tourism there is nothing like taking a hike to experience the beauty of our islands from a unique stand point. Hiking through the trails and up the rivers to finally land you at a beautiful pool and waterfall. There are numerous waterfalls that are scattered throughout the islands and each with its own treasured beauty.
There are many available hiking clubs such as Hikers Inc, Trinbago Backpackers Hikers Club and U.W.I Hiking club just to name a few. There are different classes from 1 to 10, 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most difficult so you can make an appropriate selection best suited to your capabilities. The tour guides will put everyone into groups so that no one is left behind or separated from one another. Take in the beautiful sights, sounds and smell as you hike up the tracks on your way to your destination, meanwhile your tour guides will point out important information along the way. The hikes are usually very inexpensive and it will be an avenue to experience the great outdoors. Which hikes have you been to? Which do you prefer and what hikes do you recommend for tourists to enjoy?

  1. Sadly I have only been on 1 hike and I live in Trinidad. I went up to the Rio Seco waterfall with the U.W.I. Hiking club year before. At first I did not really think much of it, but from the time we got to the trail I realized just how much fun it was going to be. Then the hike actually started and we were put into teams of two, the buddy system and the leaders of the hike were very professional as there was 2 people leading the group, 2 in the middle of the group and 2 at the back, so no one could get lost. When we got to the waterfall I was amazed and I could not jump into the water fast enough.

  2. Hiking is 1 thing that I love to do. I recently started going on hikes like early last year and since then I cant get enough. I live in Tobago and I have been to most of the hiking spots from last year to now. So from next year I plan on coming to Trinidad whenever I can and go on hikes to different parts.

  3. If there is one place that I absolutely love is the Maracas waterfall. To me that is the best, its a fun hike and well the waterfall is just amazing. On the way up you pass some really pretty flowers, I can never remember the name of it, but it always seem to make the hike even more fun.

  4. The first time that I went on a hike I did not pay attention to the class. So just for the fun of it I went on a class 10, thinking that there would be nothing to it, it cant be that bad. Boy was I wrong, I started out in front and about 10/15min into the hike I was the very last person in the line, the guide that was at the back had to help me for most of the hike and I got to say he was really nice to me even though I was slowing down the entire group. So the lesson is that you should pay attention to the classes and go with what you know you can handle. Now the highest class hike I do is a class 4.

  5. I have never been on a hike as yet. But from reading the comments I think that I should give it a try. And thanks to the last person who commented about the class of hikes being important I will start off with a class 1 and see how it goes from there.

  6. Last year was my first time to Trinidad and I did the hike up to Maracas. Let me just say that you all have a BEAUTIFUL home, it was so refreshing to be hiking up a trail with so much lush green plants and flowers, not to mention how clean the air smelt. But when I got to the waterfall I was just speechless at how beautiful it was. I only wish I could leave the states and live in Trinidad

    Avocat Falls

    Balandra Basins

    Blanchisseuse to Grand Tacaribe

    Bush Bush Sanctuary
